His debut feature screenplay, The Lesson, was released by Universal and Bleecker Street in 2023. Starring Richard E Grant, Julie Delpy and Daryl McCormack, the film was a New York Times Critic's Pick and described by Stephen King as 'Cold, smart and suspenseful... Excellent acting and a nicely timed twist at the end.' Screen International commented that 'the surprise... is that that this is the debut screenplay from MacKeith and not a literary adaptation itself.' For the script, Alex was longlisted for a BIFA for Best Debut Screenwriter.

As a comedian, he won the 2020 Musical Comedy Awards and took his debut solo show, Thanks for Listening, to the Edinburgh Fringe in 2022. Chortle described the show as 'rich in humour and musicality... Funny, atmospheric, sometimes gently ludicrous, sometimes rooted in reality and sometimes a little of both.' It enjoyed a sellout run and transferred to London's Soho Theatre, with the live recording now available on Spotify.

Alex was a semi-finalist in the BBC New Comedy Awards 2023, and worked in the writers room for seasons one, two and three of the BBC3 comedy-drama Boarders, broadcast and streaming on iPlayer. He has been commissioned to write an episode for the second season of a UK comedy series for Big Talk and Apple TV+, as well as providing punch-ups across the season. He is developing an original comedy with Baby Cow Productions, and an original drama series with Intaglio Films.

He lives in London with his wife and zero dogs.
